We offer a prompt and competitive ophthalmology referral service for all veterinary species. This is the only ophthalmology service in the South West employing an RCVS Diplomate and Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology.
Services include all types of intraocular and extraocular surgery including:
We have full diagnostic equipment for medical examination, including slit-lamp biomicroscopy, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy and tonometry. On site high frequency ultrasound allows for rapid diagnosis of intraocular and orbital disease.
Early referral is recommended for all cataract assessments. Phacoemulsification is the ‘gold-standard’ procedure for cataract removal. At the initial consultation we assess the suitability of the patient and discuss the procedure with the owner. Surgery can normally be performed within 1-4 weeks. The surgical success rate for this procedure is good and it is applicable for the majority of cataract patients. Routine ERG (Electroretinography) and high-frequency ultrasound examinations are performed before surgery: these examinations are essential to correctly select patients for successful treatment by phacoemulsification.
Clients must bring with them their original Kennel Club Owners or Breeders registration certificates. We are unable to give clients the results of the tests without the original forms, a photocopy is not sufficient.
