South Devon Referrals now offers a dermatology service with Rachel Sant, an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Dermatology, with over 20 years’ experience of dealing with skin disease in dogs and cats.
Please note. Rachel is unfortunately having surgery in April 2021 and will not be back at work until June. There will therefore be a delay in seeing any dermatology cases. Please continue to send any less urgent cases and we will book them in from June 2o21 onwards.
Rachel is happy to see:
- Dogs and cats with allergic skin disease, either early on in the course of disease, or in cases where previous treatments have been ineffective.
- Ear disease affecting either the pinna (ear flap) or the ear canal. This may be done in combination with John Harvey if CT or surgery are required to manage your pets ear disease.
- Animals with unexplained hair loss, which may be breed related, hormonal, or due to internal disease.
- Various skin cancers
- Conditions of the skin relating to the immune system, where biopsy and immunosuppressive treatment may be required.
Rachel will often take samples during a consultation and examine hair and skin under the microscope to assist in a faster diagnosis for your pet. Sometimes you may need to return on another occasion if sedation or anaesthesia is required although this is not necessary in all cases.
Rachel is also happy to offer advice and discuss cases by phone or email.
